Hannah Broughton

I am currently a year 3 student at the University of Northampton studying a BA (Hons) in Fine Art. My practice heavily focuses on sculpture, with visual themes surrounding but not exclusive to, pressure, weight, and compression.

The work is primarily an investigation into a container that I pour plaster into. The container, now used as a mould, can be a vast range of materials, including, a balloon, plastic bag or in most cases tights. The results are biomorphic in form but may also speak to anthropomorphism due to their association to something living and possibly internal to the body.

The plaster; seen as warm and organic, has an relationship to the cold almost architectural concrete blocks I place them in dialogue with. Although opposite in their language the concrete and plaster embrace as if two beings.

The work tends to be fractured and as soon as it is assembled objects can be taken away to favour a different arrangement. I particularly enjoys this type of process as the possibilities are endless and the work is never truly complete.
